Title: Shannon Lake | |
| Composer: Brant Karrick | ||
| Year Composed: 2001 | ||
| Shannon Lake is Karrick’s third original work for concert band. Intended for young musicians, it was written for and premiered by the Ohio Music Educator’s Association District XIII, Ninth-grade honor band.
The work is structured in an overture, fast-slow-fast form, and comprises two main themes. The typically triadic harmony includes bitonality in the form of simultaneously sounding major chords interspersed throughout the work. The theme used in the middle section was spawned from the composer’s favorite rock band Steely Dan. Shannon Lake is a musical portrait of being on water during a beautiful summer day, swimming, fishing, water skiing and generally enjoying life. |
